Writer/Video Journalist Bret Primack has been at the forefront of new media since he co-founded Jazz Central Station in 1995. In 1997 he was the first Jazz blogger with Bird Lives, where, as the Pariah, his heartfelt diatribes struck a responsive chord in the music industry. A graduate of NYU Film School who worked in documentaries and industrials, Bret returned to filmmaking in 2004 and began producing videos for Jazz musicians. When YouTube debuted, he began posting as the Jazz Video Guy. Today, his mission is simple: To keep Jazz from becoming invisible.

At a young age, Caleb has already left a permanent mark on the music industry. His vision and accomplishments have marked him as a rising star, both domestically and now internationally. As the President of Caleb Chapman Music, Caleb directs over 100 of Utah's most talented young musicians in six elite ensembles, including the award-winning Crescent Super Band. Previous to his current position, Caleb founded The Music School in 1999 and architected an innovative approach to music education which proved to produce many of the nation's most desirable young musicians. He also designed and authored what became the proprietary curriculum system utilized by the school. In 2006 he gained the attention of the renowned Juilliard School, which led to the conservatory's affiliation with The Music School, making the school the only one in the country to have this designation. Hendrik Meurkens is the tallest Jazz harmonica player in the world. German-born but now based in New York, Meurkens' recordings and performances garner worldwide acclaim because the transcendent beauty of his music has universal appeal. A two-mallet player in the tradition of Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson, Hendrik Meurkens was en-route to being an instantly recognizable vibraphonist when he heard Toots Thielemans. Inspired by the sound of Thielemans' harmonica, he taught himself the difficult-to-master instrument. Hendrik Meurkens' other life-changing musical experience was his introduction to samba and bossa nova. He was so moved by Brazilian music that after perfecting his unique musical voice at Berklee, as a vibraphone major, he moved to Rio in the early 80s to totally immerse himself in music and culture of Brazil. A regular Monday night gig at the popular Rio club, Bar 21, soon demonstrated his acceptance by Brazilian musicians. Meurkens' poignant, emotionally affecting harmonica proved to be a sound that Brazilians strongly embraced, and during his Rio days, he met many musicians who later became collaborators in both Europe and New York. The Jake Feinberg Show and the JJA will honor local Jazz Hero Lamont Arthur on June 23rd at 8pm at Mr. Heads in Tucson. Lamont Arthur. Born: Panama Canal Zone 1956. Hometown: Sierra Vista, AZ Occupation: Career Musician, Organ/keyboards, Entertainer, Composer, Recording Artist, Studio Engineer. Experience: 40 years Self Taught Lamont Arthur has been playing, composing and teaching jazz in Tucson for the last three decades. Born in Panama, the son of an army soldier, Lamont found himself growing up at Ft. Huachuca in Southern Arizona. At the age of 12 he became aware of his passion for music. He learned to play the Glockenspiel from his 6th grade music teacher Mrs. Smith. He turned his musical attention to the Hammond B-3 organ and played in mixed-ethnic rock and country groups at places like the Blue Room and Carr Canyon Corral in Sierra Vista. By the late seventies he had moved to Tucson and began playing with groups like Street Pajama, Rapid Transit, Bloolyte, Bondavi and legendary blues-man Sam Taylor to name just a few. He began playing gigs at many of the clubs in Tucson; the Pirates Den, Fun Factory, Bobby McGee's, The Doubletree, Nino's, Gentle Ben's and Merlin's.
